Berita 24 English -On Wednesday, the presidents of the United States, South Korea, and Japan expressed their grave worry over North Korea's missile tests and pledged to work more closely together to address the threat that Pyongyang poses.

At a meeting outside the NATO summit in Madrid, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol concurred that the advancement of North Korea's nuclear and missile programmes posed grave dangers to not only the Korean peninsula but also to East Asia and the rest of the world.

Some people think that North Korea is getting ready for another nuclear test since it has been testing missiles at an unprecedented rate this year.

The three leaders decided to investigate further ways to strengthen security cooperation and "extended deterrence" against North Korea—the capacity of the U.S. military, notably its nuclear assets, to deter attacks on U.S. allies.

As part of the crucial effort to deepen the trilateral collaboration between Japan, the U.S., and ROK, Kishida stated that the deterrence capabilities of the alliances between Japan, the U.S., and the Republic of Korea (ROK) needed to be upgraded.

For the first time, the presidents of South Korea and Japan are in attendance as observers at the NATO meeting.

Due to recollections of Japan's rule of the Korean Peninsula from 1910 to 1945, relations between Japan and South Korea have long been strained.

Under the previous South Korean president Moon Jae-in, relations between the two countries reached their lowest point in years as a result of disputes over territory and history as well as the termination of an intelligence-sharing agreement. Yoon, though, has stated a wish to mend fences, and Kishida also appears to have reacted favourably.
