Berita 24 English -  Police and rescue workers said on Tuesday that a bus that was going too fast crashed into an oil tanker in Pakistan overnight, killing 20 people in a fiery crash.

"There were three buses racing. One of them hit a ship carrying oil, "Imran Shaukat, a police official, told Reuters that the accident happened on a highway near the central city of Multan.

He said that the crash caused a fire that spread to both the tanker and the bus. He said that the oil tanker could not be identified to find out which company owns it.

The driver of the tanker left the scene, a spokesman for the highway police said.

A state-run rescue service said that the bus was going to Karachi, a port city in the south. The rescue service found out that the bus was owned by Daewoo and that at least 20 people had died, some of whom were completely burned.

An employee at Daewoo's Lahore office who answered the phone confirmed that its bus was involved in the accident and that the driver was one of the people who died. The company's top people were not available to talk about the situation.

An official with the rescue service told Dunya TV that six passengers made it out alive.

"When we got here, the fire was raging," he said, adding that most of the passengers were sleeping when the fire started.

Pakistan has a lot of deadly car accidents, mostly because people drive too fast and the roads aren't well built. In 2017, more than 100 people died in the area when an oil tanker tipped over and caught fire.
