Berita 24 English - The health ministry reported on Thursday that dengue fever cases in Vietnam have more than doubled so far this year compared to the same period in 2021, and it has advised its hospitals to be prepared for more infections.

There is currently no vaccination for dengue, a virus-borne illness that is widespread throughout Southeast Asia. Internal bleeding can occur in severe cases of it.

Vietnam recorded 89,120 dengue cases in the first half of the year, up from 35,936 in the prior year—a 148 percent rise. Over the same time span, deaths increased to 34.

The 98 million-person nation has recently seen an average of 110,000 cases per year, with infections normally peaking between June and October.

The ministry issued special instructions to healthcare staff this week and predicted an increase in cases, with more severe cases expected to be hospitalised.

"All provincial and local hospitals need to concentrate their efforts on admitting and treating serious illnesses."
