Berita 24 English -  Official data released on Friday showed that Indonesia's inflation rate rose at the fastest rate in five years in June, beating predictions and going over the central bank's target range because of rising food prices.

The annual inflation rate went up from 3.55 percent in May to 4.35 percent in June. This was the highest rate since June 2017 and was higher than the 4.17 percent predicted in a Reuters poll. The target range for Bank Indonesia is between 2% and 4%.

But the annual core inflation rate, which takes out prices controlled by the government and prices that change quickly, came in at 2.63 percent in June, which was less than what the market had expected. The poll had predicted a rate of 2.72 percent for April and 2.58 percent for May.
