Berita 24 English -  Poland would bolster its armed forces in response to the conflict in Ukraine by purchasing 48 FA-50 fighter jets, 180 K2 Black Panther tanks, and howitzers from South Korea, the Warsaw defence minister was cited as saying on Friday.

Many former eastern bloc nations now worry about their security as a result of the invasion on February 24. NATO member Poland has pledged to increase defence expenditure to 3 percent of GDP and more than double the size of its army in order to fend off any invasions.

In an online excerpt from an interview with the conservative weekly Sieci, Mariusz Blaszczak stated, "This year, the first units will be delivered, and in total, there will be 180 (K2 Black Panther) tanks in the first order; ultimately, these tanks will be made in Poland."

Poland will also purchase howitzers and FA-50 fighter planes from South Korea, according to Blaszczak.

48 aircraft, or three squadrons, are what we are interested in buying, Blaszczak added. "Poland would receive the first aircraft next year,"

Hyundai Rotem is the company behind the K2 Black Panther tank. Korea Aerospace Industries produces the FA-50 combat aircraft (KAI).
