Berita 24 English -  A local traffic police official told Reuters on Monday that Tesla cars will be banned for at least two months from accessing the Chinese coastal area of Beidaihe, which hosts a clandestine annual summer leadership conclave.

The decision by the Beidaihe authorities comes only weeks after Tesla cars were banned from driving on some roads in Chengdu, China's centre city, during a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping in early June.

The official from the Beidaihe Traffic Police Brigade, who did not want to be identified, gave no justification for the transfer but stated that it was related to "national affairs." The official stated that an announcement would be made soon.

A request for comment from Tesla was not immediately returned.

Beidaihe, a seaside resort east of Beijing, holds a summer conclave of China's senior officials, who meet behind closed doors to discuss personnel movements and policy proposals. The dates of the conference are not usually announced in advance by China.

The Chengdu limits on Tesla cars, which were not officially declared, came to light after footage of Tesla cars being steered away from specified places by the police were posted on social media.

The Chinese military banned Tesla automobiles from entering its facilities last year, citing security worries about cameras installed on the vehicles, according to Reuters, which cited insiders who had seen the directive at the time.

Tesla's cars do not spy in China or anyplace else, Musk stated at the time, and the firm would be shut down if they did. Tesla announced a few months later that all data collected by cars sold in China would be stored in the country.

Vehicles are increasingly being equipped with cameras and sensors that record photos of the environment. Controlling how those photographs are used, as well as where they are conveyed and kept, is a growing concern for industry and authorities all over the world.

External cameras in Tesla cars aid drivers with parking, lane changes, and other features.
