Berita 24 English - A source acquainted with Aung San Suu Kyi's cases stated on Wednesday that Myanmar's military rulers have abruptly ordered that all court cases involving the ousted leader be transferred to a jail.

Since she was overthrown in a coup at the beginning of last year, Nobel laureate Suu Kyi, who turned 77 on Sunday, has been accused of at least 20 criminal offences, including numerous instances of corruption.

Suu Kyi has been found guilty of inciting and a number of lesser offences, but Junta commander Min Aung Hlaing has let her to stay in custody at an undisclosed location in the capital Naypyitaw. Suu Kyi refutes all accusations.

Hearings would be moved to a new special court in Naypyitaw's prison, according to the source, who wished to remain anonymous owing to trial-related sensitivities.

The source continued, "The judge has declared that a new building for the court is finished.

Unable to be reached right away for comment was the military council in power.

Suu Kyi's protracted court cases are conducted behind closed doors with little information being reported by state media. Her attorneys are only permitted to speak with her on trial days due to a gag order.

Uncertainty surrounds Suu Kyi's knowledge of the situation in her nation, which has been in upheaval since the coup and is experiencing escalating paramilitary group resistance as the military struggles to strengthen its hold on power.

Western nations have demanded her release and referred to the convictions as a sham. According to the military, she is receiving due process from an impartial judge.
