Berita 24 English -  China's government announced on Friday that new steel, coking, oil refining, cement, and glass projects will be prohibited in crucial zones, as part of a broad policy statement aimed at reducing pollution and reaching the country's climate targets.

China would scale up attempts to build a zoning system to manage environmental concerns, as well as take steps to limit heavy industries in existing contaminated regions, river basins, and cities, according to the report.

In addition to prohibiting heavy industry in the zones, China plans to ensure that new energy cars account for about half of all automobile sales by 2030, and will prioritise the development of biomass, geothermal, and solar energy for heating.

According to the statement, China must create new "synergies" to reduce air, water, and soil pollution while simultaneously addressing carbon dioxide emissions, which the country intends to reach a peak by 2030.

Many environmental pressures have not been alleviated, according to the report, which also stated that "there is still a long way to go to accomplish the aim of constructing a beautiful China and reaching carbon neutrality."

The statement also promised to hasten the transition to alternate fuels in cement manufacturing, expand carbon capture and storage deployment, and increase steel and aluminium recycling rates.

It would also take steps to promote low-carbon lifestyles and establish "green communities," according to the statement, which did not go into further detail.
