Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force Wiku Adisasmito

The national COVID-19 task force called on the regional authorities not to let their guards down, even though their area had been downgraded to an orange or green zone. According to Wiku Adisasmito, 34 regions and cities have consistently been listed as orange areas , which means that there has been a medium risk of COVID-19 infection for six consecutive weeks. They include 12 counties / cities in North Sumatra, 11 in Central Java and 11 in East Java.

Some regencies and cities are moving closer to achieving yellow zone status, which means that there is a low risk of COVID-19 transmission. They are Reyang Lebong Regency in Bengkulu, Madiuna and Lamongan in East Java, Yogyakarta, Gunung Mas Regency in Central Kalimantan, Donggala Regency in Central Sulawesi, South Buton and South Konawe Regency in Southeast Sulawesi, West Lombok Regency in West Nusa Tenggara, Ternate City in North Maluku and Maybrat Regency in West Papua. Three areas are about to be reclassified as red zones. They are Langsa in Aceh, West Pasaman in West Sumatra, and Karanganyar in Central Java.

"Don't be complacent just because your area is not a red zone. Orange areas are still risky and there is still a possibility of transmission. If the situation continues unaddressed, these areas can again become red zones, "Wiku said in a press release aired on the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday. "Our aim is for all regions to become green zones, which means that they have zero infections for four weeks in a row and a recovery rate of 100%." Wiku therefore called on the regional authorities to continue to step up their monitoring, tracing and treatment (3 T) efforts, and to engage proactively with the central government whenever equipment such as reagents for monitoring, medicines and treatment is required. He considered that many regional administrations had begun to be complacent after their regions had degraded their COVID-19 danger zone.

"It is so sad to see that more than 50% of the regenties and cities that were previously green zones have now become yellow zones, and some orange zones have been reclassified as red zones this week," said Wiku, quoted by Kompas.com. Wiku clarified that 336 or 65 per cent of more than 400 regencies and cities across Indonesia are listed as orange zones this week. It therefore urged regional authorities to return to their focus on the treatment of COVID-19, so that regular infections could gradually be brought down and eliminated. He also found that between Oct. 4 and 11, the five provinces with the highest rise in new regular infections were Central Java, West Java, West Papua, South Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi. "For those provinces, please review the application of the Health Protocol. Getting on the list of the Big Five in COVID-19 positive cases is not anything to be proud of.
